Terms of service
These terms cover your use of Nine Boxes, the Mac app, and nineboxes.app. By installing or using Nine Boxes you agree to them.
What you are getting
Nine Boxes is licensed, not sold. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use it on Macs you own or control, for as long as these terms are in effect.
You may not redistribute the app, sell it, rent it, or pass your subscription to someone else. You may not reverse engineer it beyond what the law where you live specifically permits.
We keep every right we have not given you here.
The trial
Nine Boxes is free to try for 14 days, with every Pro feature on and no card required. The trial starts the first time you launch it.
When the trial ends, Nine Boxes moves to the Free tier by itself. Nothing is charged and there is nothing to cancel.
On Free, boxes 1 and 2 keep working with plain text. Boxes 3 through 9 become read-only for 30 days: you can still see what is in them and paste from them, you just cannot save anything new there. After those 30 days, Nine Boxes writes the contents of boxes 3 through 9 to a plain file in your Documents folder, tells you exactly where it put it, and clears them. We do not silently delete a former customer's data.
Subscriptions and automatic renewal
Pro is a subscription. Two plans:
- $6.00 per month, renewing every month
- $60.00 per year, renewing every year
Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, and your payment method is charged again, until you cancel. The renewal date and amount are shown to you before you pay and again in your receipt.
You can cancel at any time, and cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. You keep Pro until then, and you are not charged again. We do not prorate or refund the remainder of a period you have started, except where Part 3 or the law says otherwise.
To cancel, do any of these:
- In Nine Boxes: Preferences, then Account, then Manage billing
- On the web: sign in at nineboxes.app/account and choose Manage billing
- At link.com, where Stripe holds your payment details
- Or email chase@chaseyoursolutions.com and we will do it for you
There is no exit survey and nothing you have to talk your way past.
Prices can change. If we change the price of a plan you are on, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you can cancel before it does.
Who you are buying from
Payments are processed by Stripe, which acts as the merchant of record. Stripe is the legal seller for your purchase, collects and remits any sales tax or VAT, and issues your receipt. Your purchase is therefore subject to Stripe's terms as well as these.
Your statement will show LINK.COM followed by Nine Boxes rather than Chase Your Solutions LLC. Your card details go to Stripe and never touch our servers or the app.
The Accessibility permission
Nine Boxes requires the macOS Accessibility permission and cannot paste into other apps without it. This is stated on the pricing page and again during setup, because it is not optional and there is no version of the app that works around it.
With that permission, Nine Boxes posts a paste into whatever app you are using. It does not use it to see your screen, read other apps' windows, or send anything anywhere. If you decline it, Nine Boxes can still save things but cannot paste them, and you should not buy a subscription expecting otherwise.
Acceptable use
Do not use Nine Boxes to break the law, to infringe someone else's rights, or to process content you have no right to process. Do not attempt to interfere with our servers, exceed rate limits deliberately, or use the AI features to generate volume that no person is reading.
We can suspend an account that is doing any of these. Where it is practical to warn you first, we will.
AI features
Some features send a piece of content you select to Anthropic to be processed, and only when you trigger them. What that means for your data is set out in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
You are responsible for what you send. Output is generated by a language model, can be wrong, and is not advice of any kind: not legal, medical, financial, or professional. Check anything that matters before you rely on it.
AI features are metered. Current allowances are shown in the app, and we can change them with notice.
Your content
Everything you save stays yours. We claim no ownership of it and no licence to it beyond what is technically required to deliver a feature you asked for, such as passing a snippet to be processed or storing encrypted sync data you chose to upload.
Data loss
Nine Boxes stores your boxes on your Mac, in an encrypted database, and is built so that ordinary use does not lose them. Even so, it is a clipboard tool and not a backup system.
Do not use Nine Boxes as the only place a piece of information exists. History expires after 7 days by design, boxes are replaced when you save over them, and the erase command in Preferences is immediate and cannot be undone. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for content that is lost, expired, overwritten, or erased.
Warranties
Nine Boxes is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error free, or compatible with every other piece of software on your Mac.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. Where that is the case, this section applies only as far as the law permits, and your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these terms or your use of Nine Boxes is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Consumer protection law in some jurisdictions overrides parts of this section, and where it does, it wins.
Ending it
You can stop using Nine Boxes at any time, and you can cancel a subscription as described above.
We can suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms, or if we are required to by law. Where the breach can be fixed, we will tell you and give you a reasonable chance to fix it first.
If your access ends, your local boxes and history stay on your Mac and remain yours: the app moves to Free rather than deleting anything. Any encrypted sync data we hold is deleted within 30 days. You can ask for an export before then at chase@chaseyoursolutions.com.
If we ever discontinue Nine Boxes entirely, we will give at least 90 days' notice, stop charging subscriptions immediately, and publish a version that keeps working locally without a licence check.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE], without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and the courts of [COUNTY, STATE] have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
If you are a consumer resident in the EU, the UK, or another jurisdiction whose law gives you the right to bring proceedings locally, nothing above takes that right away.
Changes to these terms
We can change these terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will tell you by email, or in the app if we have no email for you, at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you can cancel before it does. Continuing to use Nine Boxes after that date means you accept the change.
